Doorknobs

If you are looking for something small to change that will replace something old without breaking the bank, I recommend changing a doorknob or two. Old doorknobs can be rusty and old fashion. You can change all interior doors in the house either yourself or with a hired handyman. I like to choose an accent color- brass, black, chrome, satin nickel- and match all of the doorknobs to rooms and closets that share a hallway. I will choose a similar but simpler knob for closets and bathroom doors that are inside bedrooms. This is a great opportunity to add an accent metal and character in a small and relatively cheap way. You can choose a handle or a knob; I don't like handles because children tend to pull hard and hang on them. Below you can see the doorknobs I often recommend.

There are three types of knob options in almost every style, so be sure to purchase the right one for your door.

  1. Privacy- doorknob with a pin or key lock-for bedrooms and bathrooms

  2. Passage- doorknob that turns and latches without a lock-for closets

  3. Dummy- knob pulls but doesn't turn or latch- for the semi stationary door on a set of double french doors
